Rehabilitation is a programme of exercise and information sessions that help you get back to everyday life as efficiently and successfully as possible after a heart attack/ heart surgery/  Asthma attacks/ COPD/  Paralysis/ Musculo skeletal injuries/ Sport injuries/ Accidents. According to WHO Rehabilitation measures are aimed at achieving the following broad outcomes:

  • prevention of the loss of function
  • slowing the rate of loss of function
  • improvement or restoration of function
  • compensation for lost function
  • maintenance of current function.

Neurological disorders like Stroke, Paralysis, Bells palsy, Hemiplegia, are treated with Nutrition, Acupuncture, Massage therapy, Yoga therapy which can help the patient on the road back to wellness.

.Acupuncture is most effective for the recovery of motor function if administered immediately and the within the first month.

Massage is an effective therapy for restoring normal nerve function after a stroke, but it’s been virtually ignored as a therapy option.

Nerve damage occurs when areas of the brain are deprived of adequate oxygen, usually from a burst blood vessel, blood clot or a spasm in an artery.

Symptoms may include numbness, muscle weakness or paralysis, confusion and memory disruption or pain.  Potentially every cell and organ in the body can be affected.

Every stroke is unique and the extent of damage to the body is determined by the location of the stroke in the brain. That is, the resulting deficits correspond to whatever that particular area in the brain controls, such as speech, movement, memory, cognition, etc.

Sometimes these deficits are permanent and sometimes they can be reversed by initiating immediate therapy. Other times, the brain finds circuitous routes that establish an alternative connection.

A new study in chronic stroke survivors shows that practicing yoga can improve balance in patients, giving them more confidence to handle day-to-day activities and potentially reducing disability. Yoga helps enhancing Mind Body connect which helps to coordinate movements and breathing.

Along with Yoga, Acupuncture, Nutrition, Therapy Massages; Mirror therapy and Biofeedback has been found very effective.

Mirror therapy : Patients look in mirror as they perform certain exercises in order to receive visual cues and feedback from their movements.

Surface electrodes are placed on a patients’ face.  These electrodes only sense what the muscles are doing and provide feedback as to their motor activity. As patients practice their exercises, the feedback assists them in learning to efficiently use their muscles.  The machine also picks up when muscles are overactive and helps in teaching patients the proper way to do an exercise.  When patients are ready, this form of therapy can assist them while they practice at home.
